Thermal dependence of muscle function.

چکیده

Maximal isometric forces during both twitch and tetanus are largely temperature independent in muscles from both endothermic and ectothermic vertebrates. Anuran muscle can develop maximal force at lower temperatures than mammalian muscle. Tetanic tension is maximal at normally experienced body temperatures in a variety of animals, but twitch tension seldom is. Thermal dependence of twitch tension varies with muscle fiber type: tension decreases with increasing temperature in fast-twitch muscles and remains constant in slow-twitch muscles. In contrast to the low temperature dependence of force generation, rates of development of tension (time to peak twitch tension and tetanic rise time) and maximal velocity of shortening and power output are markedly temperature dependent, with average temperature coefficient (Q10) values of 2.0-2.5 Q10 values for rate processes of anuran muscle are only slightly lower than those of mammalian muscle. High body temperatures permit rapid rates of muscle contraction; animals active at low body temperatures do not achieve the maximal rate performance their muscles are capable of delivering. Thermal acclimation or hibernation does not appear to result in compensatory adjustments in either force generation or rate processes. In vivo, dynamic processes dependent on contractile rates are positively temperature dependent, although with markedly lower Q10 values than those of isolated muscle. Static force application in vivo is nearly temperature independent.

The thermal dependence of locomotor performance and muscle contractile function in the salamander Ambystoma tigrinum nebulosum.

The thermal dependence of locomotor performance and in vitro muscle mechanical properties were studied after acclimation at 10 degrees and 20 degrees C in the salamander Ambystoma tigrinum nebulosum Hallowell. Performance measurements included burst and endurance capacities on land and in water. No significant differences in locomotor performance or muscle contractile properties were found betw...

Energy Scheduling in Power Market under Stochastic Dependence Structure

Since the emergence of power market, the target of power generating utilities has mainly switched from cost minimization to revenue maximization. They dispatch their power energy generation units in the uncertain environment of power market. As a result, multi-stage stochastic programming has been applied widely by many power generating agents as a suitable tool for dealing with self-scheduling...

Temperature and muscle.

Rates of force development, contraction and relaxation of vertebrate skeletal muscle are temperature dependent with Q10 values of approximately 2. Maximal forces developed have a low or negative thermal dependence. The functional basis of these patterns is poorly understood. Muscle performance generally does not acclimate. There appears to have been some evolutionary adaptation among species an...

Exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation Emitted from Common Mobile Phone Jammers Alters the Pattern of Muscle Contractions: an Animal Model Study

Introduction: The fast-growing telecommunication and wireless technologies has led to more dependence to these communication devices and higher levels of exposure to electromagnetic radiations propagated by cellular devices and their service towers. To disable signaling in places where silence is valued or where information quarantine measures are required, mobile phone jammers emit radiofreque...

Thermal dependence of sprint performance of the lizard Sceloporus occidentalis.

Sprint velocity of the lizard Sceloporus occidentalis was maximal at preferred body temperature (Tb, 35 degrees C). Mean running velocity (VR) and stride frequency (f) at this temperature were 3.23 +/- 0.7 (mean +/- S.E.M.) ms-1 and 15.6 +/- 0.3 s-1, respectively. VR and f did not change significantly when Tb was raised to 40 degrees C. At Tb values between 25 and 35 degrees C the thermal depen...
